Drive for nonstandard auto profits puts agents at risk
Article Abstract:
Independent agents have accounted for over 70% of the premium volume in the nonstandard personal automobile insurance sector but some large carriers are now bypassing independents. Insurance for drivers with bad records or vehicles of high risk has become a major attraction in the industry, but this increased competition is leading to consolidation and a shakeout of smaller players. Big firms are increasing telemarketing and other forms of direct marketing to bypass independents.

Malpractice insurers target alternatives
Article Abstract:
Medical malpractice insurers are paying greater attention to chiropractors, acupuncturists, and other nontraditional health providers as they gain more acceptance from the public. There are less than 50 medical malpractice insurers who service alternative medicine providers, since these providers account for less than 5% of total medical malpractice writings. The soft market for traditional clients is another attraction to alternatives.
