The long road back
Article Abstract:
Guarantee Security Life Insurance Co completed a remarkable recovery from financial collapse under the management of the National Organization of Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Assns (Nolhga). Nohlga formed another company called Guaranty Reassurance Corp to manage Guarantee Security's assets and repay policyholders. Guaranty Reassurance's life insurance policies and annuities were transferred to Midland National Life Insurance Co in order to resolve the Guarantee Security insolvency. Nohlga also got support from the industry in rehabilitating Guarantee Security.

Adding value
Article Abstract:
The National Assn of Insurance Commissioners' Valuation Actuary Requirement states that all life insurance firms and fraternal benefit societies that have assets worth over $100 million must evaluate their reserve liabilities together with assets and product mix. This can help reduce the risks related to the mismatching of assets and liabilities. Insurers should supplement this requirement by using analytical methods to enhance their financial performance and concentrate on the leverage/investment flexibility trade-off.
