The title industry -- a parental view
Article Abstract:
The title business must prepare for change and cease relying on regulation to protect it. John Burns, president and CEO of Alleghany Corp, and Robert Steinberg, president and COO of Reliance Group Holdings, spoke at the 1994 ALTA convention about their respective title companies - Chicago Title and Trust and Commonwealth Land Title Insurance - and about the industry in general. Title companies must develop a focus on getting the best employees and providing the greatest value to customers in order to survive.

Outlook promising for arbitration of title insurance disputes
Article Abstract:
The American Land Title Assn (ALTA) and the American Arbitration Assn (AAA) have worked together to develop rules regarding the arbitration of disputes involving title policies. ALTA believes arbitration can reduce legal costs, resolve claims more quickly, avoid court congestion and reduce the risk of punitive damages or unfair claims. A sampling of arbitration cases tends to support ALTA's beliefs and they hope more usage of the process developed with the AAA will be beneficial.
