The urge to merge
Article Abstract:
The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents and the Independent Insurance Agents of America have resumed plans to merge after several state associations concluded mergers on their own. The insurance agents associations in Minnesota led the way and have helped resolve such issues as reverse revenue-sharing of commissions. Problems in reaching a successful consolidation included deciding on who will lead the new organizations and how to merge state and regional organizations.

Disaster planning for agents
Article Abstract:
Property insurance agencies should prepare a plan for conducting business in case a natural disaster or other catastrophe hits the agency itself. For example, agency employees will have their own difficulties, and cash flow may be a problem for the agency. The agency should also formulate a plan in case an important employee dies. Additional techniques for planning to cope with catastrophe are discussed.
