Containing toxic risks
Article Abstract:
Property and casualty insurance companies must create effective risk management procedures for environmental insurance to stop losses stemming from policies on commercial properties. Environmental risk management should be customized for specific conditions, such as air pollution, hazardous waste and land pollution. Specific policies often motivate property owners to control damages before costs escalate. Additionally, insurers should learn about remediation technology to evaluate property insurability.

USAA Casualty Insurance Co contracted AT and T to analyze and automate its data processing and communications network for field agents. AT and T's analysis discovered several vulnerabilities in USAA's network, including insufficient fiber routes and access links. The telecommunications company developed a Garrison System architecture, which provided backup systems for both communications and data processing, and a main communications center located within the USAA headquarters in San Antonio, TX.
