Long defensives: victory without compellence
Article Abstract:
Long defensives, as military strategy, have considerable advantages and can lead to victories as is evidenced by the Dutch wars of independence, the wars of Frederick the Great, and the Arab-Israeli wars. Long defensives become the strategy of necessity when the political survival of the defender is at stake, and a disparity of resources exist between the attacker and the defender. The cost of the defensive campaign is less compared to that of the offensive. This strategy also frustrates the persistence of the attacker.
