Russian power in the new Eurasia
Article Abstract:
The power of Russia in the new Eurasia is dependent on the region's geopolitical environment, its military environment, and Russia's capability to maintain and impose its power despite its structural weakness. Russia's military and security weakness, which was demonstrated by the Chechen crisis, can be compensated for through its cooperation with its Western and Asian partners and by improving its institutional, economic and political policies to restore its power in Eurasia and to prevent the region from fragmentation.

The weakness of Russian nationalism
Article Abstract:
The absence of mass nationalism is a key feature of Russian political life. Strong mass political organizations have not emerged among the Russian diaspora communities, and effective Russian nationalist paramilitary forces have not emerged. The main current of Russian nationalism is non-ethnic in nature, a trend strongly based in the Russian imperial past. The absence of a clear sense of Russian ethnic identity has played a key role in avoiding ethnic conflict.

Chinese irredentist nationalism: the magician's last trick
Article Abstract:
Historical defeats under Japan and Western states such as the US, an unreformed political system and the goal of economic progress hampered by overpopulation may cause China to resort to irredentist nationalism. In addition, an overall Chinese policy shift from a land-based to an ocean defense strategy highlights China's intention to extend its maritime boundaries. The possibility of Chinese belligerence has alarmed other Asian nations and the US.
