This article discusses the political, economic and military relationships between Taiwan, China and the United States since Chiang Kai-shek and the Nationalist forces sought refuge in Taiwan in 1949, establishing the 'two Chinas' dilemma. The author asserts that Asia has become a focal point of global strategic affairs, and the triangle between Taipei, Beijing and Washington will be of significant national and international concern.
