The US, Iraq and the use of force in a unipolar world
Article Abstract:
NATO's military action against Yugoslavia inspired debate about the use of force in international law. However the military operation launched by the US and the UK against Iraq was legally and probably also morally far more questionable. The US and the UK argued that they were acting to enforce the will of the UN Security Council, in response to the breach of the cease-fire, as well as pre-empting Iraq's potential future use of weapons of mass destruction. It is argued that the armed action against Iraq has undermined international relations.
