The political economy of new regionalism
Article Abstract:
This article examines the conflicting influences of globalization and regionalism on the world political economy since the end of the 20th century, and considers whether one form will dominate in the future or if both can co-exist. Issues include old and new regionalism, approachs to regionalization, theoretical explorations of the political economy of regionalization, new regionalism and the globalization/regionalization nexuses, and politics from above and below in the new regionalism.

Does the diplomacy of shame promote human rights in China?
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the methods employed by human rights activists in attempting to shame China into accord with 'universal' standards. The author suggests that these tactics may not only be ineffective but counterproductive because they arouse indignation by offending national pride, and cause a cultural relativist defence, with no signs of policy change.
