Turkey's new security environment, nuclear weapons and proliferation
Article Abstract:
Turkey faces several major military and political threats brought about by the dissolution of the USSR and the end of the Cold War. These threats include possible a renewal of Russian imperial ambitions and an escalation of regional and ethnic conflicts among the republics of the former USSR. Despite the existence of these threats, most Turkish government leaders continue to opt for modernizing their conventional armed forces, rather than consider developing their own nuclear capability. Given Turkey's reluctance to develop their own nuclear capability, the burden of protecting the country's integrity will fall on the declared nuclear powers.

East Asian-Pacific security: an assesment
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the US policy towards East Asian national security, which has not changed since the end of the Cold War; the US continues to exercise bilateral alliances and play the role of guarantor of peace and security. The author argues that the structure of East Asian relations have changed, and so should the policies; multilateral alliances should be used, allowing East Asian countries to share in the peace and security processes; the position of China must also be considered, since it may replace the American hegemony over the region.

The geography of universal empire: A revolution in strategic perspective and its lessons
Article Abstract:
A Columbian 'revolution in strategic perspective' occurred in Europe, and this in turn provided the European great powers a critical advantage over polities, which did not rapidly adapt to the new global character of strategy. The possibility that such revolution in perspective might occur in the future is studied and the international system that would be transformed is argued.
