A lack of adequate counsel shames U.S

Article Abstract:

The US legal profession poorly handles the legal needs of the criminally accused who cannot afford a lawyer, especially in appeals of capital sentences. Practitioners in the British system both prosecute and defend, and sound legal aid is readily available. Especially in murder cases, members of the bar are eager to participate, regarding such involvement as an honor. US law firms, especially those that grow wealthy in commercial law, should likewise strive to help, particularly as the system is ailing.

Careerists at DOJ put politics first

Article Abstract:

The US Dept of Justice is highly political and rarely held to account for its unequal application of the law, making necessary discretionary decisions on the basis of class, position, and the category of crime. In 1994 85% of all immigration violations recommended by investigators were prosecuted, but only 4% of civil rights violation cases involving police or prison guards. Greater congressional oversight, stricter internal controls, and more restraint by reporters would all improve DOJ's performance.

Attorney facing discipline sues the Texas bar; a Houston lawyer alleges bar officials pursue charges against him in bad faith

Article Abstract:

Texas attorney John O'Quinn has countered the Texas state bar's attempt to disbar him by filing both state and federal suits accusing the bar of bad-faith prosecution and claiming his due process rights were violated during the disciplinary investigation. The bar attempt to discipline O'Quinn resulted from his alleged ambulance-chasing after a 1994 plane crash in North Carolina
