A 'low-tech' guy in high-stakes job

Article Abstract:

Dennis. P.R. Codon, the vice pres, general counsel and chief legal officer of Unocal Corp, spends between 60 and 70 days a year on foreign travel on foreign travel for his job. He disputes allegations by Burmese peasants that Unocal and its foreign partners committed human rights violations in their building of a pipeline in Burma. Codon also states that Unocal's reported move offshore was a rumor which started due to the opening of a second headquarters in Asia He also has concerns about the extraterritorial application of US laws.

Article Abstract:

California's Democratic governor Gray Davis approved financing to build one of the biggest US state civil rights enforcement offices and the state is also reversing its position on prominent civil rights cases before California courts. Government attorneys from the time of Jerry Brown's administration have been employed. Judges from the time of Jerry Brown's administration are expected to feel it is safe to retire and might now be replaced by other Democrats.
