Battle of the accounting bits
Article Abstract:
DacEasy's $149.95 DacEasy Accounting & Payroll 95 and BestWare's $79.95 M.Y.O.B. 6.0 are both full-featured accounting programs with rich features. DacEasy is remarkably easy to use, and includes a handy New Company Wizard for setting up books for the first time. It includes a number of online tool tips, and will provide a description of what to enter on any particular field. A payroll module is included. DacEasy offers a flexible billing utility that lets users describe services precisely, and create invoices on-screen using a template. M.Y.O.B., unlike DacEasy, is a 16-bit program, but still runs well under Windows 95. M.Y.O.B. includes a good to-do list function and a strong set of contact management features. Both offer basically the same features, although M.Y.O.B. may be best for smaller businesses where the operator has little accounting experience.

27 tips for a successful document assembly project
Article Abstract:
Document assembly systems, if made to be flexible and user-friendly, can significantly contribute to a firm's productivity. Twenty-seven tips are offered to help create a successful document assembly system. The first and most important item is to get everyone in the group involved in the project. Otherwise, it may be difficult to get people to use the system after it is developed. Also, by starting with a smaller system and working up to something larger, users get an opportunity to test out the approach to see if it works before spending more time developing it. By choosing a system that works with the company's existing word processor, users do not need to learn new function keys or waste time with importing files. Another important tip is to realize that the capital investment is only a small part of the budget, but it can yield major results.

Internet legal research organizer
Article Abstract:
DocuWork's MeltingPoint Internet legal research organizer promises to simplify the process of finding useful information among the Internet's voluminous material and chaotic lack of structure. MeltingPoint provides significant research benefits to users working on large projects who have had the foresight to build databases. It is available for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 and costs $69 for the Personal version, $195 for the Pro version and $495 for the five-user Pro version. MeltingPoint acts as the front end to an intelligent, specialized relational database. The Personal version includes a template to handle legal research results and the Pro version allows users to construct new templates and to import information from other databases. Researchers will find MeltingPoint valuable for structuring their Internet research in a coherent manner.
