CD-ROM developers face licensing hurdles: the use of copyrighted material can lead to success and litigation
Article Abstract:
CD-ROM titles lead the multimedia industry and many increase their shelf appeal through the fair use doctrine's allowance of excerpts from popular works. This practice could lead to litigation if fair use limits are not carefully followed. CD-ROM software is also copyrightable as is the overall feel of the product. CD-ROM producers should both use an intellectual property license and purchase the developers' services, allowing for adequate compensation without anti-competitiveness charges. CD-ROM developers and publishers seek innovative ways to structure development contracts.

U.S. court exonerates track star
Article Abstract:
The federal judge hearing Harry Reynolds Jr's suit against the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) has ruled in his favor, saying that the drug tests showing he used steroids were so flawed as to constitute inadequate proof. The IAAF, however, has refused to recognize the court's jurisdiction in this matter. Reynolds' lawyers feel they can still collect the judgment by garnishing US companies in debt to the IAAF.
