Clan and superclan: loyalty, identity and community in law and practice
Article Abstract:
The formation of identity has become a personal right in the post-Cold War era, a self-definition influenced by local, regional, ethnic, national, and global forces. Multiple loyalties are facilitated by ongoing changes in legal systems and cultures; multiple citizenship laws are evidence of this change. Individuals can forge their own personal identities in an unprecedented way. The type of loyalty once pledged only to a national government can also be simultaneously pledged to various religious, familial, and business groups or clans.
