Current NLRB decisions: good news and bad news for employers

Article Abstract:

Cases decided by the National Labor Relations Board and appellate courts from 1997-1998 are surveyed. Issues highlighted are employer free speech guarantees, disclosure during labor negotiations, union decertification, single facility appropriate unit cases, the permanent replacement doctrine, and employers' providing unions with employee rosters.

Collective bargaining: the Rodney Dangerfields of human rights

Article Abstract:

The article argues there is a strong international consensus holding that collective bargaining should achieve recognition as the human rights equivalent of other fundamental civil rights, and that this consensus spans the whole political spectrum. However, many employers and governments who have advanced other human rights policies have not lived up to their international obligations with respect to this right and have instead tolerated the willful violation of the right to bargain.
