Companies using color, sound or scent marks may be foiled overseas
Article Abstract:
Nontraditional trademarks enjoy limited protection overseas, with variations both by country and by the type of trademark sought. Colors enjoy fairly broad protections, though generally in color combinations or together with distinguishing graphical marks. Sounds are recognized as protectable in some countries, principally members of the EU, though they may be recognized in some courts under unfair competition laws. Scents are even less widely protected, with express provision for them only in Australia and the US.

Imaging can ease courts' record-keeping tasks
Article Abstract:
Imaging technology can provide more efficient paperwork processing for court administrators. This technology can be used either to convert all information in a court's civil files or just for storing long-term records. However, since the technology is so expensive, it may be better to justify the cost by using the system for pending cases. It may also be more cost-effective to view this technology as an information retrieval system and to only include documents which are likely to be needed again.
