"Continuous" regulatory reform at the Federal Trade Commission

Article Abstract:

The Bureau of Economics in the FTC is an unusual subagency which plays an important role in informing Commissioners in their regulatory decisions regarding business practices. The bureau provides technical information based upon research and cost-benefit analysis. The organizational structure has proved to be effective with constant informed monitoring of past decisions and present regulatory situations. Political policy changes may change how bureau information is weighed but have not eliminated the subagency.

The disconnect between law and policy analysis: a case study of drivers and cell phones

Article Abstract:

A ban of driver use of cell phones has recieved much political support, but neither economic efficiency nor risk management supports such a ban. This illustrates the basic disconnect between law and policy, brought about because the public perceives the risk of drivers using cell phones as higher than policy analysis does. This disconnect is present in many other area of regulation.
