Court strikes down asbestos accord
Article Abstract:
The US Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit rejected the $1.3 mil settlement of claims by all present and future personal injury and wrongful death victims against 20 asbestos companies in Georgine v. Amchen Products, Inc. by decertifying the class action. The plaintiffs must now bring each action separately, thereby causing more court congestion and delay. Most of the damages will go to transaction costs and legal fees.

It may take a village... or a specialized court to address family problems
Article Abstract:
Many states have realized the lack of family-friendliness of the US family court system and have instituted unified family courts, which consolidate divisions solving family problems into one operation. These courts work together with social service agencies. The ABA has backed the concept, and Rhode Island was the first state to adopt such a court in 1961. The major obstacle to such a system seems to be financial.
