A duty to care: sterile injection equipment and illicit-drug use
Article Abstract:
Medical personnel are duty-bound to counsel and provide sterile injection equipment to drug-addicted patients. This is essential for preventing the spread of life threatening infections like HIV, hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV). The sterile injection equipment is available to addicts through the needle-exchange programs. However, prescription by the doctor is a more professionally regulated way of providing such equipment.
