Article Abstract:

Both the 105th Congress and Pres Bill Clinton view campaign finance reform as a top priority. Pres Clinton said as much during his victory speech on Nov 5, 1996, and Senators Russell Feingold and John McCain are planning to introduce a campaign finance bill similar to S. 1219, a bill of their which stalled last year. The senators plan to add a provision on foreign contributions to US campaigns, an issue previous campaign finance reform bills have not addressed.

Campaign finance legislation; election year debate looms on campaign finance reform

Article Abstract:

House and Senate conferees are working to reconcile two campaign reform bills passed last year (S. 3 and H.R. 3750). Both bills contain provisions for public financing of campaigns and candidate spending limits, items which President Bush has promised will provoke a veto. The ABA supports partial public financing and contribution limits, but opposes mandatory spending limits.
