The UK's 1996 Employment Rights Act collects various employment laws from throughout the UK and consolidates them into a single format, but makes no important changes to existing law. The Disability Discrimination Act of 1995, the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, the Equal Pay Act 1970, and several other acts are unaffected by this Act. A table is included, providing both quick reference and section-by-section guides to the Act and its provisions.

Draft employment rights disputes bill published
Article Abstract:
The UK government is considering legislation revising employment rights disputes and industrial tribunal procedures. A 1996 government consultation document indicates the draft bill is aimed at promoting alternative dispute resolution and quicker resolution of disputes. An unfair dismissal arbitration procedure is also being considered. A list of key tribunal changes and dispute resolution details is provided.

Consolidation bills receive Royal Assent
Article Abstract:
The 1996 Employment Rights Act, Industrial Tribunal Act, and Reserve Force Act become effective Aug. 22, 1996, three months after receiving Royal Assent. The Employment Rights Act covers a number of areas including wage deductions, maternity rights, redundancy, time off, termination, and dismissal. The Industrial Tribunal Act covers areas such as jurisdiction, conciliation, procedure, and membership.
