Article Abstract:

EU foreign ministers have supported the Commission's move towards a transatlantic economic partnership with the US, although the launch may be compromised due to the long-standing dispute of EU banana imports. Formal negotiations have begun with entry candidates from central and eastern Europe, but many have been criticised for their lack of haste in adopting EU legislation in certain sectors. Talks are also underway with African, Caribbean and Pacific partners.
