Financial planning regulation and the life insurance agent
Article Abstract:
Government regulation of financial planners is confusing and inconsistent because there is no widely accepted definition of financial planning or what requires them to be registered. Financial planners who are also investment advisers must be registered and regulated under the Investment Adviser Act of 1940, and legislation has been proposed to expand registration requirements to include any financial planner who uses a professional designation. Most states also regulate investment adviser activities. Financial planners should register if so required to avoid liability, fines and penalties.

The importance of properly funding universal life
Article Abstract:
It is important that insurance agents understand the various forms of universal life insurance so they can capitalize on the wealth-building potential of the policies and ensure that their clients will be protected when they need to be. Most policies have been sold as minimum funded contracts in an attempt to offer low premiums. Agents should encourage higher premiums and show the client the effects of changing interest rates. They should monitor the plan to see if the client's goals will be met at a given rate of funding and take into account compound interest.
