He tamed Texas' wild forensic frontier; Houston's medical examiner made the old county morgue a more modern operation
Article Abstract:
Dr Joseph A. Jashimczyk's retirement this year as Harris County Medical Examiner in Houston ends one of the longest and richest periods in legal medicine. He modernized his profession in Texas almost singlehandedly, one of the first MEs with a degree in law as well as in medicine, and another in theology. He started in Houston in 1957 at age 33, with his first major effort the modernization of the morgue facilities. He has for decades been the city's best-paid official and leaves to teach forensic pathology.

School focuses on 'legal sport' to enhance its rep.: South Texas notches 47 national titles in 16 years
Article Abstract:
South Texas College of Law developed an outstanding track record in moot court trial advocacy largely through the leadership and drill approach of assistant dean T. Gerald Treece. In the 16 years he has run the program like a coach would a sports team, it has won 47 national titles, among them 1995's ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition championship. It has won the competition five of the past six years, taking both first and second three times. Other schools' programs are student-run.
