How nice companies can finish first
Article Abstract:
Two fictional companies with differing management philosophies, Alpha Inc and Omega Inc, are described. Omega cares mainly about profit maximization. The company is highly centralized and cares little about its lower-level employees. Alpha Inc is culturally diverse and its CEO has little interest in the limelight. Top management leads balanced lives and does not work unduly long hours. The employees are given as much control over their working lives as possible. The moral is that Alpha has the competitive edge.
