Industrial tribunals and the law of sex discrimination in the United Kingdom
Article Abstract:
Sex discrimination law in the United Kingdom is based on the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 and Equal Pay Act 1970 as well as European principles. Employment-related sex discrimination is addressed in Industrial Tribunals and takes three forms: indirect discrimination, where general rules affect men and women differently; direct discrimination, where women are treated differently than men; and victimization, where someone reporting discrimination is treated differently. The Tribunals are able to infer from the evidence presented by the claimant who bears the evidence burden. Several cases have expanded the law to apply to part-timers and pensions.

The color complex: intraracial discrimination in the workplace
Article Abstract:
Intraracial job discrimination, where African Americans discriminate against each other on the basis of skin color shade, is prohibited by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the courts have supported this position. However, though the standing to sue was confirmed, most cases did not provide the level of evidence necessary to substantiate the allegations and so the courts have largely found for the defendants. Intraracial job discrimination needs to be recognized more consistently, regardless of the myth of racial solidarity.
