Internal IP audits reveal overlooked possibilities; audits can help corporations identify which inventions would be most profitable to patent
Article Abstract:
Companies should perform intellectual property audits and their nature and frequency depends on the company's developmental activities, competitive environment, and inventions management program. A key part of the audit is evaluation of the procedures for maximization of home-grown technology's protection. Establishing patenting policies comes first. The policy should include confidentiality procedures strict enough to protect technology from public disclosure. The review should consider not only patenting but having the technology be a trade secret.
