Article Abstract:
Criticism of the law and order theme of the 2000 presidential campaign is given.With the declining crime rate in mind, reforms suggested by critics include greater judicial discretion in sentencing and a phaseout of mandatory minimums, to take some of the pressure off of overcrowded prisons.

A poll of potential jurors on the appointment of justices to the Supreme Court is discussed, with 41% of those polled finding the candidates' views on this matter weighed very heavily in their choice. The poll shows concern over court appointments crossing party lines, with Bush and Gore voters almost evenly matched in concern.
