Leaving expert systems to experts

Article Abstract:

Law firms can use functional specialization to practice more efficiently and economically. All of the law firm's functions other than dealing with the client and reviewing the law and facts of a case and coming up with a solution are delegated to support staff. These support personnel become expert in the areas delegated to them, and, since they are paid much less than lawyers, can perform the function much more economically than the lawyer can. Functional specialization will improve productivity and restructure the firm.

Finding compatible partners makes a strong firm

Article Abstract:

Finding compatible partners for a law firm means considering matters as amorphous as cultural and interpersonal fit. Before recruiting, partners should identify common traits in their working styles and what needs they hope to meet with their business. Commonalities in value systems should also be identified. Taking these steps should yield a picture of the firm's culture. Diversity and compatibility must be balanced.
