Awards given out at the ABA's 1993 annual meeting included the Harrison Tweed Award, the Franklin N. Flaschner Judicial Award, the Livingston Hall Juvenile Justice Award, the Thurgood Marshall Award, the Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award, the International Human Rights Award, the E. Smythe Gambrell Professionalism Awards and the Robert J. Kutak Award for Legal Education. Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Janet Reno were among the recipients of the Margaret Brent Award

Pickering receives ABA medal; Washington, D.C. lawyer is recognized for service to the poor and elderly
Article Abstract:
John H. Pickering received 1999's ABA Medal, the highest ABA honor, given to those who have rendered notable service to the cause of American Justice. Nearly every year since 1929 has seen someone honored with this award. Pickering has in nearly five decades of practice never lost sight of the lawyer's public service commitment and has continued to donate 10% of his time to pro bono efforts.
