MSHA: undermining progress in occupational safety and health
Article Abstract:
Most of the Mine Safety and Health Administration's (MSHA) occupational safety and health regulations retard innovation and impede progress in the US mining industry. Under the 1977 Mine Safety and Health Act, the MSHA sets all safety and health standards and then enforces them through mandatory mine-wide inspections. Violations are penalized with large fines or closure orders. The agency also conducts numerous spot inspections, including those undertaken in response to anonymous complaints. Miners are also allowed to accompany MSHA inspectors on their rounds with no loss of pay and to be compensated for time lost due to mine closure orders.

Method to the merger madness: revisiting the '80s takeover boom
Article Abstract:
The frequency and size of mergers and acquisitions in the US have reached a peak in the decade of the '80s and introduced various unconventional methods and styles of acquisitions. As compared to the present acquisition cycle, major changes from the 1980s are noticeable including the absence of financial buyers, economic conditions and softening regulations.

Myths of antitrust progress
Article Abstract:
Antitrust laws that protect trade and commerce from unlawful restraints, price discriminations, price fixing and monopolies still have not been that efficient. The present antitrust enforcement seems less harmful compared with the past decade. Even the government has not successfully enforced antitrust laws since the government has used them for restricting and restraining the competitive process, instead of for impeding monopolization.
