Article Abstract:
The article discusses reasons for the proliferation of mass tort suits, the Defense Research Institute's Task Force on Mass Torts, and the Working Group on Mass Torts appointed by the US Supreme Court's Chief Justice. These reasons include the complexity of the issues, the expense of trying individual cases, the applicability of means of aggregation such as class actions, and various conflict of law questions.
