Nonprofit hospital mergers and the exercise of market power

Article Abstract:

The author examines the US Dept of Justice's undifferentiated treatment of nonprofit and for-profit hospital mergers. Results indicate private hospitals price lower than for-profits in their markets and mergers do not appear to change this.

The authors analyze the decline in seasonal variation in new retail automobile prices and suggest reasons for the decline, including model change costs and overall cost to consumers lessening fashion impact.
