Past, present, & future: building on 70 years of innovation - the AAA looks to the 21st century

Article Abstract:

Many events serve as milestones for the evolution of the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) since the AAA was founded in 1926. The first code of arbitration practice was published in 1931. New York University School of Law offered the first course in arbitration law ever offered anywhere in 1938. The AAA and the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association signed an agreement in 1952. The AAA developed international rules in 1991.

Papal arbitration: how the early Roman Catholic Church influenced modern dispute resolution

Article Abstract:

The power and moral authority of the papacy in the Middle Ages allowed the Popes to mediate many conflicts among Europe's heads of state. Much of the Popes' success was derived form their political and diplomatic cunning. Also, their success was grounded in their belief in the principles of charity and good will.
