Proof of the meeting competition defense: investigation and verification of reported competing offers
Article Abstract:
An antitrust defense can be accomplished by claims of meeting price competition under the Robinson-Patman Act's section 2(b). Rigorous procedures must be used to verify this, as is demonstrated by the results of two appeals cases. In Alan's of Atlanta Inc v. Minolta Corp, the defense failed because of lack of proof of good faith. In Reserve Supply Corp v. Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp, the defense succeeded because an adequate contemporary record of price analysis existed.

Intercompetitor cooperation in the petroleum industry
Article Abstract:
The joint ventures in the petroleum industry do not violate antitrust law. The economics of size have favored joint actions, which have led to improved competition by avoiding the waste of duplicated efforts. Historical joint ventures have included exploration, research, supply, marketing, refining and distribution. Modern legal analysis of distribution and refining reaffirms the practicality, competitiveness and noncollusive benefits of joint ventures.
