Protecting your medical privacy
Article Abstract:
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 mandated the creation of an electronic database that would record individual information in a unique number for each American. Although the bill will increase the efficiency for billing health services and standardize medical information, the danger lies in the government's abuse of the information provided them. This bill also forces Americans to share their personal medical information which eliminates their right to privacy. Thus, to reconcile these differences, constitutional protection of medical privacy is needed.
