Regional earnings for 1994
Article Abstract:
The Government's 1994 New Earnings Survey, which provides detailed statistics on regional pay patterns, indicates that Scotland and Greater London had below national average earnings growth and East Anglia had the strongest earnings growth. Part E of the survey, which covers the period until April 1994, also reveals that women's earnings are moving towards men's pay in many regions. Among women workers, those involved in manual labor in Greater London saw the worst earnings growth with just 1%. Part E also offers information about average earnings and distribution of earnings for various categories.

Pay awards rise to 2.7%
Article Abstract:
An analysis of 70 pay reviews with settlement days in the three months until Nov 1994 and covering 1.1 million workers reveals that there has been a 2.7% increase in the IRS headline measure of pay awards. This rise spans the whole economy and is the first increase in the basic pay level since the settlements concluded in the three months leading to Aug 1994. The private sector closely follows the trend of the whole economy. The top 25% of pay rises were in the 3% range and the bottom 25% were around 2.5%. There were higher increases than a year ago in 85% of the pay reviews.
