Simplified Web site creation
Article Abstract:
Microsoft's $149 FrontPage 1.1 Web publishing tool lets users build sites easily, since it shields users from HTML and CGI coding. The client-side FrontPage Explorer gives users a graphical and hierarchical view of a Web site, while the FrontPage Editor produces the specific Web pages. Users employ word-processing styles and the toolbar to add HTML elements. A To-Do List alerts users to tasks that must be completed before the site is finished. Users begin each new site by choosing 'New Web' from the FrontPage Explorer menu. Wizards and templates guide users through the process, with the wizards prompting users for answers to questions, while the templates allow users to replace existing text and graphics with their own. FrontPage accepts documents in HTML, ASCII and RTF formats. It can also translate many graphics files into JPEG or GIF files. WebBots allows users to add functions, such as full-text searching, without requiring the users to write CGI code.

Improved flexibility with CompareRite 5.0
Article Abstract:
Jurisoft's CompareRite 5.0 is a versatile redlining program that is compatible with a number of popular word-processing packages. Version 5.0, which operates under Windows or DOS, works with WordPerfect for DOS 4.0 to 6.0, Word for DOS 3.0 to 5.5, Word for Windows 2.0, WordPerfect for Windows 5.1 to 6.1, and AmiPro 3.x. CompareRite can examine a document in two different formats without conversion. A Word for DOS file, for example, can be checked as a WordPerfect for Windows document. One significant new feature is the Revision Report. This report is displayed at the bottom of revised documents and summarizes the location and nature of the changes. A network version is available which supports two separate option libraries, of which each may hold as many as 26 option sets.

Eudora v. Netscape v. Outlook
Article Abstract:
Three Internet E-mail programs are evaluated and compared, including Qualcomm's Eudora Pro 3.0, Microsoft's Outlook Express 4.0 and Netscape Messenger 4.0. Eudora Pro is among the market's most popular E-mail systems. Version 3.0 was reviewed, but version 4.0 is now available. Outlook Express and Netscape Messenger are the E-mail components of the companies' popular Web browsers. Eudora Pro is the full-featured version of the application and is priced at $39, but a 'light' version is available free from the company's Web site (www.eudora.com). The three programs handle the basic sending and receiving of E-mail messages adequately. Eudora is the top choice, despite its price, because of its interface, which presents the most information about incoming messages.
