Site choice hinges on incentives; states now offer a broad array of loans and tax credits to attract manufacturers
Article Abstract:
Counsel for manufacturers must understand the importance of incentives in the site-selection process in view of the record growth of the manufacturing sector. Comprehensive incentive programs are an indicator of the business climate in a given state. These incentives can be divided into tax credit programs, infrastructure programs, loan programs and grants. The programs are always available to new industry coming into a state and often for the expansion of an already existing industry. Tax credit programs can include credits to employers for job training or retraining expenses and tax credit incentives for environmental cleanup.

Athletes cry 'foul!' over NCAA rules; lawsuits challenging the implementation of high school 'core course' eligibility rules shatter association's image of invincibility
Article Abstract:
Several students have successfully sued the NCAA in 1997. This trend in litigation against the organization began in 1996 when it increased its 'core' courses high school students must complete for certification in intercollegiate competition. The increase in English core courses created the most problems. The result of hundreds of student-athletes becoming ineligible and court decisions against it has moved the NCAA to re-examine its policies and grant more automatic waivers.

Electromagnetic fields attract lawsuits
Article Abstract:
Personal injury suits due to electromagnetic field radiation (EMF) have been filed numerous times since the first suit in 1987. EMF disputes have also reached state legislatures, and about six states now regulate this area. Some research has been done, but a well-controlled scientific study showing a causal link between EMF and cancer and other diseases has yet to appear, so plaintiffs will continue to face an obstacle course in proving their claims.
