Sentencing sex offenders: some implications of recent criminal justice policy
Article Abstract:
The development of a common approach to sentencing of sex offenders for courts and the prison/probation services has been hindered by recent criminal justice policy. The treatment needs of sentenced sex offenders have been neglected while more attention has been given to the wider goals of system objectives and political agendas. Suggestions for improving coherence and continuity in policy and practice include developing more custodial and noncustodial treatment options to deal with the different forms of sexually deviant behavior.

Attitudes, social problems and reconvictions in the 'STOP' probation experiment
Article Abstract:
Attitudes, social problems and reconvictions have been considered relative to the 'STOP' probation experiment. The effectiveness of probation has been evaluated for the most part on reconvictions, recidivism. In Mid Glamorgan, UK, The CRIME-PICS measurement instrument was used in the STOP experiment, which is an intensive probation program. Data from that measurement are compared to reconviction data. Some, not a lot, of positive correlation was found.
