Tapes: Burger's secret call to Nixon
Article Abstract:
A tape of a May 22, 1973, telephone conversation between ex-Chief Justice Warren Burger and ex-Pres Richard M. Nixon was released in late 1996. This conversation took place three weeks after John Ehrlichman and H.R. Haldeman were dismissed, as Pres Nixon was trying to staunch the wounds of Watergate. Ex-Chief Justice Burger at this time offered his psychological support but 14 months later would author a unanimous opinion ordering Nixon's compliance with a subpoena of the presidential tapes which would force his resignation.

GOP seeks to reimburse 'White House scapegoat.' (Billy Dale, defendant in Travelgate case)
Article Abstract:
Congressional Republicans plan to hold the White House responsible for the legal bills of former travel office chief Billy Dale, acquitted of embezzlement charges in Nov 1995, but those bills are relatively low. Dale owes some $350,000 on his tab of $500,000, but his lawyer, Steven Tabackman, says it would have been 50% more at a large firm. Tabackman, who founded an elite firm two years ago to provide sophisticated but relatively inexpensive litigation services, planned his spending strategically.
