Tax benefit of L.L.C.s enhances investment: U.S. firms investing in Asian markets can benefit from use of a limited liability company
Article Abstract:
US companies operating overseas in partnership with a local business or one from a third country can increasingly use the limited liability company (LLC) to reduce US tax liability or reporting requirements and gain other benefits. The LLC offers the limited liability that corporation shareholders enjoy, but imposes only a single level of US income tax, and may bring tax benefits in the local country. Alternatively, an LLC can often be structured to be a corporation for local purposes.

Justice entangled: Italy, law and the Mafia; two brave prosecutors took on the Mafia and won big battles in an endless war
Article Abstract:
Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino developed new ways to attack the Mafia in Italy by tracing financial transactions and developing the first inside informants. They succeeded in winning huge convictions and drawing attention to the criminal aspects of the Mafia. Their 1992 murders led to a public outcry and eventually an airing of the Mafia's political connections, resulting in the collapse of the country's political system.
