Test of a second-generation law: plaintiffs seek to block a mafioso's profits with revised 'Son of Sam' statute
Article Abstract:
New York's rewritten 'Son of Sam' law will be tested in a case against Salvatore Gravano, who has allegedly received $250,000 for his cooperation in a book, "Underboss." The original law was declared unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court because it targeted speech and so this law is content neutral, targeting criminal profits in any form. Gravano received a reduced sentence in return for becoming a government witness and the families of his victims are not willing to see him profit even more.
