The Net may be a new venue for annual meetings; state laws and most corporate bylaws need to be revised in order to count wired participants present for voting purposes

Article Abstract:

Corporate board and shareholder meetings may in the future be held via the Internet, although legal obstacles for such meetings such as the verification of participants' identities and confidentiality remain. How online meetings will affect shareholder voting and the outcome of elections remains uncertain. Corporate directors may not grant proxies and the Internet may not be as useful for board meetings, and confidentiality concerns will probably make directors reluctant to use online technology.

Legal practitioners take note: virtual lawyering has arrived; technology creates a growing interdependence among the Web, attorneys and consumers

Article Abstract:

A 1996 ABA study revealed that only about a third of low- and moderate-income households had taken formal legal action and about half of these were dissatisfied with the result and that a large proportion of legal situations in such households never reached the justice system.
