The fifty-first session of the UN Commission on Human Rights
Article Abstract:
The 1995 UN Human Rights Commission's 51st session focused on situations involving Security Council permanent members Russia, China, and the US, women's rights, and numerous individual country situations. Middle Eastern issues were less contentious, and the debate on South Africa ended. The Commission also reviewed the work of its special rapporteurs and thematic mechanisms. Few experiments were introduced and slow progress was reported on proposals for setting human rights standards.
