The knock
Article Abstract:
The UK Board of Customs & Excise often conducts surprise raids on businesses suspected of violating customs regulations. These raids are meant to surprise erring businesses and are conducted with the objective of securing results. Typically, Customs investigators search for incriminating evidence that will hold up in a court of law. In the absence of such, investigators are likely to pounce on incriminating statements made by staffers during questioning. They may also confiscate documents that may provide evidence of wrongdoing. Should such evidence be uncovered, the raid is then followed by litigation before a final negotiation is made for the settlement of any obligations to the board. Businesses who find themselves in the position of being the target of a Customs raid can minimize the damage done during a raid by upholding their right to silence and by securing copies of any documents seized.

The net profits puzzle
Article Abstract:
The motion picture industry continues to use net profits compensation arrangements, despite legal challenge, because of the incentives they provide and because of timing issues. Compensation contingent on box office success helps studios address the time lag between performance of creative talent and the receipt of revenues. Talent with net profit arrangements accepts the use of superceding gross profits arrangements for big stars since a star's participation will improve the project's chances of being completed and may improve the long-term income potential of net profits participants.

Jerusalem has no past
Article Abstract:
Jerusalem is the sacred capital of the world's three major monotheistic faiths. The city has often been misunderstood as being defined by its history. The ongoing struggle between Jew and Arab, Israel and Palestine, illustrates how Jerusalem is always a city of the present.
