The transplant paradox: overwhelming public support for organ donation vs. under-supply of organs: the Iowa Organ Procurement Study
Article Abstract:
Most of the public support organ donation, but the gap between the supply and the demand for organs continues to increase. The Iowa Organ Procurement Study indicates that the policy changes of required request and of mandated choice are likely to impact this gap. Mandated choice could be implemented as a requirement that people express organ donation preference before issuance of a driver's license. Mandated choice should, however, be implemented more cautiously since there is a sizable minority opposed to it.

NHS managers: national pay scales frozen
Article Abstract:
Many senior managers working for the United Kingdom National Health Service will have their pay scales frozen in 1997. A proposed pay system restructuring would use four overlapping bands to set salary ranges but, during 1996-1997, managers' increases would be set locally with few increases planned to be awarded. Performance-linked pay would be introduced under the pay scale plan.

Husband may prevent former wife's donation of frozen embryos
Article Abstract:
The Tennessee Supreme Court held in Davis v. Davis that a man could block his former wife from donating frozen, fertilized embryos to a childless couple. The ruling cited privacy rights and procreational autonomy to support the interests of the individual wishing to avoid procreation as outweighing the woman's interests in donating the preembryos.
