The UN's Sixth Committee, which deals with international law, handled a number of different items during the General Assembly's 51st session, including adopting a draft convention on non-navigational use of international watercourses and reviewing a proposal to create an international criminal court. A number of key reports were reviewed, including the International Law Commission's annual report and documents on international trade and on strengthening the UN's role. Toward world antitrust and market access
Article Abstract:
The increasing globalization of business has generated a need for international antitrust laws to protect against the misuse of corporate power. Some approaches include harmonization of laws, an international code, bilateral antitrust agreements or outbound extraterritoriality. The best approach would be to establish guidelines for clear, nondiscriminatory, credible and understandable laws but let each nation determine its own definition of unjustifiable market access restraint instead of agreeing on a single market access principle.
